Naturally, there is no teaching of any sorts. Awakening the learner is the thrust of the program and whoever are part of this program have been involved in their own exploration and they will only share their experience without any attempt to teach or convin.

Naturally one has to learn from oneself !

Jogi Panghaal


Is a designer, teacher, and thinker with a special focus on the role of design in social innovation and sustainable livelihoods. His research, learning, and co-creation experience focuses on the sources and design methodologies of craftspeople, and how craftsmanship and traditional artisan communities can be an inspiration for the design of products and services in modern societies.

Jogi has been working in the field since 1979 after graduating in Product Design from National Institute of Design (NID) He works to provide product and strategic design services to artisanal communities. He has worked with NGOs and State Governments in Chattisgarh, Bengal, Orissa, Kashmir and Gujarat. For many years, he was a key contributor to the design research platform Doors of Perception Foundation, now based in France. He has taught at several design schools in India, as well as international institutions including Les Ateliers Paris and at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie Amsterdam. He lives between Ahmedabad and Delhi.

Kiran Vaghela


Kiran Vaghela, founder member and director of Hunnarshala Foundation for Building Technology and Innovation, is a civil engineer by education and a self-taught architect. Post the massive earthquake in Gujarat in 2001, he has been extensively working with the local crafts people in the rural areas of Bhuj to rehabilitate the communities and capacitate the people with the knowledge on reconstructing their habitat. He has consistently contributed in terms of time and service to help make the lives of artisans easier. Through Hunnarshala, he has been instrumental in creating a platform for an interaction between scientific, modern building science and traditional knowledge. The noble initiative has been successful in suggesting directions for strengthening engagement of artisans to deliver high quality buildings, infrastructure and community space for long term sustainable developments.

After having lived mostly through conditioning, I am drawn to exploring ways of natural learning & living from direct experience. There seem to be ways of accessing the immense potential of within resources, and awakening of the inner consciousness, beyond sensory perceptual knowledge.

Self awareness & transformation is what matters, through many ever changing contexts which life brings to us every moment.

considers himself a victim of modernity— cognitively rewired to understand the written word instead of the real world. He considers cognitive right as the most fundamental right which modernity—society and school—brutally takes away right from childhood. His experience with the illiterate artisans helped him to understand the process of creation of life-sustaining knowledge, its holistic nature and also how children learn autonomously.
His focus of the present work is to enable the so-called educated to reclaim their natural cognitive system using non-teaching pedagogy developed in the course of offering courses for design and architecture foundation students.

He offers a Do-Nothing Parenting workshop for parents to understand and undo the damages of modern parenting. Also offers Faculty development programs on nonteaching pedagogy, reclaiming process orientation, understanding the cognitive damages of literacy, readymade knowledge and the act of teaching.

He is an adjunct professor at IDC, IIT Mumbai, and IIIT Kanchipuram and is a visiting faculty at IIM Calicut, and several Design and Architectural institutions.
He has co-founded Existential Knowledge Foundation to enquire into the existential nature of knowledge; Thanima, an international conference series to enquire into the roots of aesthetics.

Narendra


Narendra’s association with tribal communities and ecology began when he undertook his first field research from 1980-85 in the Abujhmad region of Bastar, Central India. Though the project formally concluded in 1985, he stayed in contiguous areas, and has spent over thirty years with the primitive hunter-gatherer tribe inhabiting Abujhmad. He has always manifested a deep passion for his work in understanding the Adivasi sensibility towards the wilds, their respect for the environs they live in and the natural-ecological cohesions in everyday living that sustain the Adivasi way of life. Through his book, “Bastar Dispatches: A Passage Through the Wild”, Narendra has endeavoured to make a meaningful and measurable difference by bringing to light issues of Adivasi ecological- cultural expressions, notions of forests and wilds, nature-inspired modes and institutions of governance, through narratives of a people at peace with themselves and their ecosystem. Narendra brings out how forests and the wilds, humans and animals, distances, spaces and the skies, the known and unknown together make up societies and intimacies.

Sachin


Sachin is a practicing exhibition designer, archivist, pedagogue, and a storyteller. Based out of Delhi, his studio and research lab are passionately involved in looking at exhibitions, fairs, festivals, and other allied storytelling domains, as a means of making an inquiry into design, heritage, craft and culture. With a focus on material-driven design processes, the studio has also been shaped into a design-led Making Laboratory. With his active interest in indigenous knowledge systems and traditional ethos/ values of India, his ongoing research (of past 2 decades) titled “Paribhasha, paddhati, aur Siddhant” is a collation of several definitions, study of processes, and articulation of underlying (yet unsaid) principles, shedding light on an Indian Idiom of doing and being.

He has also been teaching as a visiting faculty at NID, Ahmedabad, and few other design schools since 2012. All his courses entail a unique learning of several design nuances (material, form, structures et al) through making and storytelling-based engagement.
